The .coop gTLD is restricted to businesses and organizations acting as cooperatives and registered with a cooperative membership association that requires compliance with the seven cooperative principles as a condition of membership, or have provided documentation to verify a cooperative status and eligibility for a .coop domain name.
Due to the nature of cooperatives, whereby they don't exactly fit into the typical business structure with stock holders, but being a business, they are not considered organizations, .coop is expected to act as the defining domain extension for all such cooperatives
